Cross Country To Open 2010 Season Saturday In Spartanburg

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2010 season Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Eye Opener Invitational hosted by USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C.  The Paladin men's team placed second at the meet last season, while the women's team took third in 2009.

The men's team, which was picked to place sixth in the Southern Conference this season, returns all six runners from last season's team that finished sixth at the SoCon championships.  Senior Charles McGoogan finished ninth at the conference championships in 2009 and was selected to the all-conference second team. 

The Furman women's team, which also picked to finish sixth in the league, finished fourth at last year's championships, return three top-20 finishers from the championships, including junior Chloe Kowalski, who placed second at the 2009 league championship meet.
