McGoogan Earns All-SoCon Honors For Third-Straight Year To Lead Furman At SoCon Cross Country Championships

BOONE, N.C. -- Junior Charlie McGoogan earned All-Southern Conference honors for the third-straight year after placing sixth in the individual race to lead the Furman men's cross country team to a fifth place finish at the 2010 Southern Conference Cross Country Championship Meet on Saturday morning in Boone, N.C.  The Paladin women's team finished sixth with 144 points behind a 12th-place finish by junior Brooke Mosteller. 

Appalachian State won its fifth-straight men's championship, scoring 55 points, while UNC Greensboro was second with 66, points and Chattanooga third with 74 points.  McGoogan posted a time of 24:58.29 on the 8K course to garner All-Southern Conference first team accolades.  Junior Lee Gilmer placed 16th with a time of 25:26.61, and junior Chris Caldwell finished 23rd with a time of 25:47.34.  

Sophomore Wilkerson Given recorded a time of 26:04.06 for a 32nd place finish, while freshman Tyler Greathouse finished 42nd with a time of 26:36.23.  Junior Jay Miller placed 53rd with a time of 26:55.95, and freshman Jack Klecker was 57th with a time of 27:03.91.  Rookie James Perez placed 74th (28:11.76), and Jackson Sinor rounded out the Furman individuals with a time of 28:53.84 for 83rd place.

Samford won the women's meet with 71 points, followed by Appalachian with 74 points, and UNC Greensboro with 87 points.  Mosteller posted a time of 18:31.53 on the 5K course to earn All-Southern Conference second team honors.  Paladin senior Jenna Callahan placed 24th with a time of 19:04.21, while junior Erin Barker turned in a time of 19:13.31 for 32nd place.  Junior Rebecca Shelton placed 36th with a time of 19:16.63.  

Freshman Catherine Burton earned a spot on the All-SoCon Freshman Team after placing 40th with a time of 19:19.36.  Junior Charlee Coggins finished in 41st place with a time of 19:21.33, and freshman Julia Means placed 49th with a time of 19:30.65.  Senior Chloe Kowalski was 51st after turning in a time of 19:36.67, while senior Julia Bryant took 63rd place with a time of 20:00.30.

Furman will compete at the Southeast Regional Championships November 13 in Louisville, Ky.
