Furman Track & Field Teams Open Indoor Season At Clemson

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman track and field teams will open the 2011 indoor season this weekend at the JRF Combined Events Invitational in Clemson, S.C. at the Clemson Indor Track & Field Complex.  The meet begins on Friday at 5 p.m. and will conclude on Saturday, with events beginning at noon.

The Paladin women's team returns two All-Southern Conference athletes from last year's team that placed ninth at the Southern Conference Indoor Track Championship.  Junior Chloe Kowalski won the women's 5000m with a time of 17:39.20, while senior Monique Ositelu placed third in the 800m after turning in a time of 2:16.34.

The Furman men are led by junior Lee Gilmer, who recorded a fifth place finish in the 3000m with time of 8:28.18 at last season's conference meet, and sophomore Scott Des Marais, who was a member of the 2010 SoCon All-Freshman Team in the shot put during the indoor season.  The Paladins placed eighth at the conference championships last year.
