Paladins To Compete At SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman indoor track and field teams will compete at the 2012 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday and Friday (Feb. 23-24) at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.

The championship is being held for the first time in the 4,000-seat facility, which houses a hydraulic track. The meet will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. with the women's pentathlon, followed by the men's heptathlon events at 10:15 a.m. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Friday at 4:55 p.m.

The event is free to the public. Live results, daily photos, and video highlights can be found on-line at www.soconsports.com. Daily recaps can be found on the Southern Conference website and at www.furmanpaladins.com.

The Appalachian State men and women claimed the indoor titles last year. It was the men's third consecutive title, while the women earned their ninth since 2000.  Furman placed seventh in the men's competition in 2011 while the Paladins women's team claimed eighth place.

There are 12 student-athletes returning to this year's championship looking to defend their 2011 individual titles.  Catherine Burton, Tyler Greathouse, Julia Means, and James Perez represented the Paladins on the SoCon All-Freshman team at last year's meet.
