Given, Haughey Win Mountaineer Open Cross Country Meet

BOONE, N.C. -- Furman senior Wilkerson Given won the men's race of the 2012 Mountaineer Open Cross Country Meet in Boone, N.C., on Friday, turning in a time of 15:38.17 on the 5K course, while Paladin sophomore Sinead Haughey won her second-straight meet of the season, claiming first place in the women's 5K with a time of 18:11.54.  There was no team scoring at the event.   

Junior Jack Klecker placed second in the men's race, notching a time of 16:24.87, while rookie Bradley Gossett took sixth place with a time of 16:28.01.  Freshman Jack Miller completed the course in 16:36.97 for eighth place, and sophomore William Ivey finished 11th with a time of 17:25.04.

In the women's race, sophomore Blair Burke finished second with a time of 18:48.62.  Junior Kacie Shoen garnered fourth place with a time of 18:54.99, and senior Hannah Robinson rounded out the top-five at 18:57.20.  Sophomore Emily Zizzi took sixth place with a time of 19:10.64, while junior Catherine Burton finished seventh with a time of 19:23.56.  Senior Emily Wirzba completed the course in 19:24.38 to claim eighth place, and sophomore McKenzie Woolley posted a time of 22:02.19 for 13th-place.

Following an off weekend next weekend, Furman will compete at the Charlotte Invitational on September 28.
