GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. The championships begin Saturday at 8 a.m. and run through Sunday afternoon. The event is free to the public.
Sophomores Sinead Haughey and Tripp Hurt were named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team to lead the Paladins in the opening day of last year's meet. Haughey took second in the 10,000m after recording a time of 36:01.61, earning All-Southern Conference honors. Hurt finished fourth in the 3,000m Steeplechase, crossing the line in 9:12.30.
Five Paladins were named to the league's all-freshman team for their performances in Sunday's events in 2012. William Ivey finished eighth in the 800m with a time of 2:07.49, while fellow rookie Stuart Graham placed 12th in the 5,000m with a time of 15:51.53. Hurt took eighth in the 1,500m with a time of 3:55.13, and Mitchell Lloyd placed 20th in the event after posting a time of 4:25.86.
For the Furman women's team, Emily Zizzi placed 15th with a time of 5:00.16, and Hannah Schilpp finished 20th in the event after recording a time of 5:09.61 to round out the Paladin all-freshman honorees.
