Inaugural Furman Cross Country Classic To Be Held Saturday

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The inaugural Furman Cross Country Classic will be held Sat., Sept. 14, on the Furman University Golf Course. 

The Paladins welcome 32 men's and 34 women's college teams and 31 high school teams to the event, will feature the South Carolina Intercollegiate Championships, the Southeast Independent School Cross Country Championships, and "The Border Battle at Furman," pitting schools from South Carolina versus teams in North Carolina and Georgia.

The races will kick off with the collegiate women's 6K event at 8:30 a.m., followed by the collegiate men's 8K race at 9:00 a.m.  At 9:30 a.m. the varsity high school girls' championship 5K will begin, followed by the varsity high school boys' championship 5K race at 10:00 a.m.  A collegiate awards presentation will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The independent school girls' championship 5K will commence at 10:30 a.m., then the independent school boys' championship 5K will follow at 11 a.m.  The JV girls' 5K starts at 11:30 a.m., then the JV boys' 5K at noon.  The high school and independent school awards presentation is set to begin following the final race, at approximately 12:45 p.m.

All races will be held on the cross country course of the Furman Golf Club, which has hosted two NCAA Division I Cross Country championships.
