GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman track and field teams will open the 2014 indoor season Sunday at the Emory Crossplex Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.

Junior Sinead Haughey and senior Alexa Wilton return after earning All-Southern Conference accolades at the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  Haughey was honored as the SoCon Outstanding Female Track Performer after winning the 5,000m and 10,000m at the meet, while Wilton, who set the school record in the 400m hurdles, placed third with a time of 1:02.22 in the event.

Furman swept the team titles last fall at the 2013 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships, marking the first time in history that the Paladins have won both titles in the same season.  The win was the Paladins' first SoCon men's cross country championship since 1976 and the women's first since 2000.

Paladin head coach Robert Gary was honored as the Southern Conference Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's programs, while Furman's Troy Reeder was named the 2013 Southern Conference Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year, and Allie Buchalski earned the 2013 Southern Conference Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year Award.

The Paladins placed seven athletes on the All-Southern Conference team and nine on the Southern Conference All-Freshman team, and Buchalski and rookie Grace Tinkey went on to capture spots on the All-Southeast Region team after placing in the top 25 at the NCAA region meet.
