GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The 17th annual Blue Shoes Invitational will be held on Saturday, April 12, at the Irwin Belk Track Complex for Track & Field and Kelsey-West Track on the campus of Furman University.  The day-long free event will feature collegiate teams from Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.  The meet, which begins will field events at 1 p.m., will feature individuals and teams competing in various running, relay, and field events.

The highlight of the meet will be the eighth annual Blue Shoes Elite Men's Mile, which is scheduled to be run at 9:10 p.m.  In five out of the last seven runnings of the event, the winner has achieved the coveted sub-four minute mile.  In 2007, the first running of the event, American mile record holder Alan Webb became the first person to officially run a sub-four minute mile (3:57.83) in the state of South Carolina.

Last season, for the first time in the history of the event, multiple athletes recorded a sub-4:00 time in the Blue Shoes Elite Mile.   Furman Elite's Cory Leslie won the event, turning in a time of 3:56.18, breaking Webb's meet record.  Furman Elite runners claimed the top three spots in the event, as Jeff See placed second with a time of 3:57.45, and Jack Bolas claimed third at 3:58.43.  Matt Elliott of Brooks also broke the 4:00 barrier, posting a time of 3:58.78 for fourth place.

Many sub-4:00 milers are in the field in 2014, and they will again attempt to have multiple runners break the 4:00 barrier on the Furman track.  The public is encouraged to attend the meet to cheer on these athletes as they try to accomplish this feat.

A special feature of the 2014 Blue Shoes Mile will be a question and answer session from 6-7 p.m. with many of the participants in the Elite Mile.  Fans will have a chance to learn about the runners, their background in the sport, their secret to success, and much more.  The meet's distance carnival will begin at 7 p.m., immediately following the Q&A session, and will conclude with the Women's Elite Mile at 9 p.m. and the Men's Elite Mile at 9:10 p.m.

A complete schedule of events can be found in the 2014 Blue Shoes Track & Field Meet Information link on  Live results during the meet can be found at  Complete results will be available on the Furman athletics website at following the meet.
