Hinkle Sets New Paladin 5,000m Record At Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – Sophomore Tanner Hinkle set a new Paladin record in the 5,000m to lead the Furman men's track and field team Saturday at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va.

Hinkle, who placed ninth with a time of 14:09.61, broke the previous record of 14:25, set by David Branch in 1975, by more than 15 seconds.

Also on Saturday, senior William Ivey finished 22nd in the 1,500m after posting a time of 3:47.52, while sophomore Nate Riech was 43rd in the event at 3:52.90.

Senior Tripp Hurt competed in the meet on Friday, placing seventh with a time of 8:47.76 in the 3,000m Steeplechase.

Furman will compete at the Southern Conference Championships in Birmingham, Ala., April 25-26.
