GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Sophomore Mark Hadley won the men's 5K race, and junior Laura Miller took first place in the women's 5K to lead both Paladin teams to victory at the 43rd Gene Mullin Furman Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning in Greenville, S.C.  The Furman men's team scored a perfect 15 points for the win, while the women's team scored 19 points to lead the field.

Furman's men claimed the top six spots, led by Hadley at 15:32.26.  Sophomore Austin Sprague was second with a time of 15:37.09, followed by junior Lee Shearer in third at 15:44.98.  Junior Matt Lange recorded a time of 15:50.05 for fourth, and freshman Ryan Adams, who was running unattached, was fifth at 15:57.45.  Junior Kyle Polman placed sixth with a time of 16:05.68.  Sophomore Quintin McKinnish turned in a time of 16:20.28 to take 11th, while senior Jack Miller finished 26th with a time of 16:51.91.  Sophomore Hayden Cox completed the Paladin slate in 47th place at 17:39.56.

"This was a solid day for us, considering the tough weather conditions," said Furman head coach Robert Gary following the race.  "We are looking forward to all three of the meets we have scheduled for next weekend, so we can see where the program stands heading into the SoCon Championship and NCAAs."

The Paladin women placed all six runners among the top ten at the meet.  Miller paced the team at 18:25.77 for the win.  Junior Julia Rodriguez was third after posting a time of 19:06.45, followed by sophomore Emma Mashburn in fourth at 19:14.60, and junior Ann Sisson in fifth with a time of 19:26.55.  Sophomore Becca Cooley took sixth place at 19:28.99, while junior Bryce Seymour finished 10th with a time of 20:00.64.

"Our women's team will finally be running at full strength next weekend at the Pre-Nationals meet in Louisville," said Paladin coach Rita Gary.  "Due to various injuries, we have been racing partial squads all season up to this point.  It will be nice to see how we compare when we can race our complete team."

Furman will split the Paladin squad and compete at three meets next weekend.  On Friday, select members of the team will run at the Wake Forest Invitational in Kernersville, N.C., with the remaining men's runners competing at the Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis.  The Paladin women's team will compete at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday.
