GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman cross country teams will compete at the 2016 Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday.
The meet will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course, the site of the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The meet, which features numerous powerhouses that finished among the elite at the 2015 NCAA Championships, will serve as a precursor for this year's national championships. The meet will be split into two divisions, Blue and White. Furman will compete in the women's Blue 6K race beginning at 11 a.m. and in the men's Blue 8K race at 11:35 a.m.
Besides Furman, teams competing in the meet include: Air Force, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Bowling Green, Bradley, Brown, Butler, Cal Poly, California – Berkeley, Campbell, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Colorado State, Cornell, Dartmouth, Dayton, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Washington, Elon, Florida, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Harvard, Indiana, Indiana State, Iowa, IUPUI, James Madison, Kansas, Lehigh, Liberty, Louisville, Marquette, Massachusetts-Lowell, Miami of Ohio, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Montana State, Morehead State, Murray State, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Norfolk State, North Texas, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Oakland, Ohio, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Portland, Purdue, Quinnipiac, Rice, San Francisco, Stanford, Texas Christian, Toledo, Tulane, UC Davis, UMKC, Utah State, Utah Valley, UTEP, Virginia, Wake Forest, Western Michigan, Wichita State, Wyoming, and Youngstown State.
"We are very excited to see where we stand with both programs," said Furman head coach Robert Gary. "Training has gone quite well, and we are now inside a month of our target races and goals, which are to defend our Southern Conference titles and advance to the NCAA Championships."
