TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Furman junior Frank Lara posted a time of 30:46.1 to place 83rd in the men's 10K at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

Lara, the 2016 Southern Conference Men's Runner of the Year, paced the Paladins on the Southeast Regional course last week, finishing sixth with a time of 29:08.2 on the 10K course, to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual and earn all-region honors for the second-consecutive season.

"I am very excited about Frank's position," said Furman head coach Robert Gary at the conclusion of the race.  "He finished over 50 places higher than what he finished at last year's NCAA Championships, and next year we return all of our runners who helped us to a 13th-place team finish in 2015.  It will be a special year for both genders, for sure."

The Paladins will open the 2017 indoor track and field season on Dec. 4 at the UNCG Early Bird Duals in Winston-Salem, N.C.
