GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman indoor track and field teams will compete at the 2017 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday and Sunday (February 25-26) at the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletics Center in Johnson City, Tenn.  The meet marks the 82nd annual Indoor Track & Field Championship for the men and the 30th for the women.

Saturday's schedule will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the women's pentathlon and will be followed by the first four men's heptathlon events at 9 a.m. Events are scheduled through 6:35 p.m. on Saturday with action resuming on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with the men's final three heptathlon events.  The championship will conclude on Sunday evening with the awards ceremony slated for 4:05 p.m.

The event is free to the public.  Live results, daily photos, and video highlights can be found on-line at www.soconsports.com.  Daily recaps can be found on the Southern Conference website and at www.furmanpaladins.com.

The Paladins are led by junior Allie Buchalski, who was honored as the Women's Most Outstanding Athlete in both 2015 and 2016.  Last season Buchalski won the mile, 3,000m and 5,000m to pace the Paladins.  She currently leads the league and ranks among the top three athletes in the nation in the 3,000m and 5,000m.

Sophomore Ryan Adams is ranked first in the league in the 800m and the mile entering this weekend's championships.  Senior Troy Reeder leads the SoCon in the 3,000m, and senior Tanner Hinkle had the top time in the league in the 5,000m.

"Our program is very exited for the challenge this weekend," said Furman head coach Robert Gary.  "We are hoping to better our 2015 point totals, which were the highest in program history.  Our ultimate focus is always cross country and outdoors, but we will be showing up ready to compete with the rest of the SoCon."
