GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman outdoor track and field teams will compete at the 2017 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Thursday and Friday (May 11-12) in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day meet will be the 93rd annual Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the men and the 31st for the women.
The meet will begin Thursday at 8 a.m. with the women's 10,000m, followed by the men's 10,000m at 8:45 a.m. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m.

Furman won four events at last year's championships, with Aaron Templeton taking first in the men's 10,000m on the first day of competition and the 5,000m on day two. Troy Reeder also claimed first place in the 1,500m, and Allie Buchalski won the 5,000m in the final day of competition.
The Paladins lead the SoCon with top times in four events going into the championship meet. Buchalski leads the league with a time of 15:35.55 in the women's 5,000m. Ryan Adams paces the SoCon at 3:47.90 in the men's 1,500m and Tanner Hinkle boasts the top time at 14:04.56 in the men's 5,000m. Troy Reeder holds the top time in the league at 8:40.57 in the men's 3,000m Steeplechase.
"We are very excited about the upcoming SoCon Championships," said Furman head coach Robert Gary. "We feel that the women's program can score the most point in school history, and the men will be close to their top score. We have several NCAA qualifiers this year and know the SoCon meet will provide a great championship setting to prepare for the next step."
