Greenville, S.C. -- Furman forward Matt Rafferty was tabbed as the Southern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league office.

Rafferty, a senior, averaged 23.5 points 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game this past week to power Furman to victories over Mercer and The Citadel. The Hinsdale, Ill., native shot 70% from the field for the week and converted on 13-of-14 trips to the foul line.

Last Thursday, Rafferty totaled 19 points, 10 rebounds and three steals to guide the Paladins to a 71-58 victory over the Bears at Timmons Arena. With his second basket of the game, he became the 44th player in Furman basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points.

On Saturday, Rafferty netted a career-high 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting, grabbed 12 rebounds and recorded three thefts as Furman claimed its 12th consecutive home victory and ninth straight SoCon win at Timmons Arena with a 101-85 decision versus The Citadel.

By reaching the 1,000-point mark, Rafferty joined Robby Bostain, John Castile, Guilherme Da Luz, Daniel Fowler, Jonathan Moore and Derek Waugh as the only players in school history to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists and 100 steals in a career.

Furman, 14-2 overall and 3-1 in league play, begins a three-game road trip at VMI on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3 and can be heard on the Furman IMG Sports Network with Dan Scott and Tom Van Hoy calling the action.
