Furman’s Zimmerman Called Back Into U.S. U-20 Camp
Greenville, S.C. -- Furman defender Walker Zimmerman has been named to head coach Tab Ramos' 26-man roster for the United States Men's U-20 National Team training camp which is set to take place Feb. 20 - March 1, in Clermont, Fla.
The camp marks the second for Zimmerman with the U-20 squad in the last two months. Ramos is preparing the U-20s for the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which will likely take place in early 2013. The tournament will determine the region's qualifiers for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup being held in Turkey from June 21-July 13. Every player on the roster is age-eligible for the upcoming U-20 World Cup.
Zimmerman, who earned Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors and NSCAA All-America Third Team honors after helping the Paladins to a 14-4-4 record and NCAA Tournament bid during his first collegiate season in 2011, led all SoCon defenders with five goals and anchored a defense that surrendered just 20 goals in 22 matches. The 6-foot-3, Lawrenceville, Ga., product netted scored four of his goals on headers off of set pieces this past season.
A member of the U.S. U-18 National Team, Zimmerman captained the squad at last summer's MILK Cup in Northern Ireland.
