GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will play at Mercer Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon, Ga. The winner of the match will earn the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Southern Conference tournament, while the loser will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
Furman enters the match with a 17-6 overall record and 5-1 Southern Conference mark after defeating Samford, 5-2, on Saturday and beating Wofford, 5-2, on Wednesday in the team's home finale.
Mercer is 14-6 overall and 4-1 in the league after falling to ETSU, 5-2, and defeating UNC Greensboro, 4-3, earlier this month. Most recently, the bears defeated South Carolina State, 5-1, and Florida A&M, 5-2, earlier this week.
The match marks just the seventh meeting between the two teams. Furman slipped past Mercer, 4-3, in Greenville during the regular season last year, but the Bears answered with a 4-3 victory over the Paladins in the semifinals of the SoCon tournament in 2017.
