GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will open the fall season September 14-16 at the Commodore Scramble on the campus of Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.
The tournament will feature two singles draws of 16 players each and a doubles draw with 16 teams. On Friday, two rounds of doubles are scheduled, along with one round of singles. Saturday's action will feature one round of doubles and two rounds of singles, and the tournament will conclude on Sunday with one round each of both doubles and singles.
Furman will compete against host Vanderbilt, Belmont, Lipscomb, Tennessee Tech, and Louisville during the weekend of competition. Play will begin at 9 a.m. each day, and admission is free.
The Paladins return seven players from last season's team that posted a 19-8 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Southern Conference play. Head coach Kelly Jones guided the team to the finals of the league tournament in 2018 for the fourth time in five years.
Furman's Ivan Mitric was honored as the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year in 2018, while senior Jake Munns earned an all-conference first team citation for doubles. Mitric was also named to the 2018 SoCon All-Freshman Team.
