Furman To Compete At ITA Regional Championships

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will compete at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships beginning this weekend at the Cary Tennis Park in Durham, N.C.  The tournament will showcase the top men's tennis players from the states of North Carolina and South Carolina.  

Play will begin on Friday and continue through Tuesday.  On Friday, teams will play two rounds of singles beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Saturday's action will feature one round of the singles main draw, one round of consolation singles, plus two rounds of doubles, starting at 8:30 a.m.  Play will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday, with the singles round of 16, singles quarterfinals, the singles consolation round of 32, and the doubles round of 16.  Singles semifinals plus doubles quarterfinals and semifinals will be contested on Monday, beginning at 10 a.m.  Tuesday's action will feature the singles and doubles finals, starting at 9 a.m.

Senior Jake Munns, juniors Jake Bhangdia and Clarke Wilson, sophomores Ivan Mitric and Drew Singerman, and freshmen Henrik Atlevi and James Roelofse will complete the Furman lineup for the event.

The Paladins return seven players from last season's team that posted a 19-8 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Southern Conference play.  Head coach Kelly Jones guided the team to the finals of the league tournament in 2018 for the fourth time in five years.  

Mitric was honored as the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year in 2018, while Munns earned an all-conference first team citation for doubles.  Mitric was also named to the 2018 SoCon All-Freshman Team.
