Hodges' Return Powers Furman Past USC Aiken In Exhibition Hoops, 60-41

Furman 60, USC Aiken 41

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Tierra Hodges scored 16 points and claimed 15 rebounds — both game highs — to power Furman to a 60-41 victory over USC Aiken in women's basketball exhibition action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.

Hodges, a redshirt sophomore small forward who missed all of the 2017-18 season following a knee injury, made 7-of-13 field goals and proved effective on both the offensive and defensive glass with eight and seven caroms, respectively, to highlight Furman's attack.

Junior Le'Jzae Davidson was the only other Paladin to tally double figures with 10 points.

The Paladins fell behind early but took the lead for good, 9-8, on a Hodges layup with just under a minute to go in the first quarter.

Three-pointers from Taylor Petty, a junior transfer from Presbyterian College, and freshman guard Jade Karisome spiced a second period that saw Furman outscore USC Aiken, 20-10, to take a 31-18 lead into halftime.

Furman pushed its advantage to 57-25 on free throw by freshman Greyson Boone with 4:38 to go.

All 16 players in uniform saw playing time for the Paladins, who shot 32.4 percent (22-of-68) from the field.

USC Aiken connected on just 14-of-52 shots (26.9%).

Furman commanded the boards, posting a 55-38 advantage.

The Paladins tip off the regular season next Wednesday when they play host to Coker in a 7:00 p.m. contest in Timmons Arena.
