Furman Powers Past UC San Diego, 4-0

 

LA JOLLA, CALIF. – Furman powered past UC San Diego, 4-0, Tuesday at the Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla, Calif. 

The Paladins swept the doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Sophomore Danni Vines and junior Katty Weymouth downed Ashley Chao and Becky Chou, 6-3, in the top-seeded contest, and sophomore Katarain Kozarov and senior Gabby Rodriguez posted a 6-3 advantage over Madison Hale and Alexandra Weil at flight two.  In the number three match, freshmen Carol Elizabeth Kerman and Georgie Walker topped Nousha Nowamooz and Chloe Wight, 6-3.

Furman won three singles matches in straight sets for the team victory.  Kozarov scored a 6-0, 6-1 advantage over Ashley Chao at flight one, and Weymouth defeated Becky Chou, 7-6(2), 6-0, at flight two.  In the flight five contest, Walker recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Hale.

The matches at flights three, four, and six were unfinished.

Furman (7-6) will conclude its trip to California with a match at Long Beach State on March 9.
