GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman placed 55 athletes on the Southern Conference Spring Academic All-Conference Team, as announced today by the league office.
A total of 580 student-athletes, the most in SoCon history, were named to the team, representing the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, rifle, wrestling, men's and women's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, baseball, and softball.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the spring semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
With the GPA component based off of the student-athletes' averages at the end of the semester of competition for the fourth-straight year, the Winter Academic All-SoCon team was eliminated, resulting in several track and field student-athletes appearing in the spring list twice, once each for the indoor and outdoor seasons.
With seven honorees each, the Furman softball and men's lacrosse teams topped the Paladin contingent followed by six selections from the Paladin women's lacrosse team. Furman's women's outdoor track team and men's indoor track team each placed five representatives on the team, while the Paladin baseball team, men's tennis team, women's golf team, and women's indoor track team each had four selections. Men's outdoor track and women's tennis had three selections, and men's golf had two athletes selected to the academic all-conference team. The Paladin women's basketball team had one athlete selected to the team.
