Greenville, S.C. -- Furman head coach Bob Richey rounded out his staff on Tuesday with the addition of former Xavier University special assistant Jeremy Growe as an assistant coach.

"Jeremy is another addition to our staff that embodies the culture we want to create at Furman, and a lot of that is due to the programs and coaches he has worked for prior to coming to Furman," said Richey. "He has a very strong knowledge of the game that was clear through watching his level of involvement with the Xavier offense this past year. He also brings strong recruiting ties from the midwest, especially in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, which are critical states for us. His talent and passion are evident and will help make our staff better."

Growe joins the Paladins after 10 seasons at Xavier, including spending the 2018-19 campaign as special assistant to the Muskateers' head coach Travis Steele. He becomes the second assistant added to the staff this summer, joining Tim Johnson, who was hired last month.

"The energy our staff is bringing into our program right now has been fun to be a part of this summer," said Richey, who guided the Paladins to a program-best 25-8 record and NIT berth in 2018-19. "We have added people that come from championship cultures, that have high levels of passion for what they do and are fully invested in growing people. We are excited about what lies ahead and continuing to push the program forward."

Growe assumed the role of Director of Men's Basketball Operations at Xavier in 2011 after spending the previous two seasons as a graduate program assistant. As Director of Basketball Operations, Growe's responsibilities included acting as the liaison between the basketball staff and the academic side of campus, internal scheduling, summer basketball camp and assisting in video analysis.

During Growe's 10 years with the program, Xavier compiled a 234-113 record. The Muskateers won the 2018 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship, two regular season Atlantic 10 Conference championships, played in eight NCAA Tournaments, reached an Elite Eight and tallied three Sweet 16 appearances. While serving as a graduate program assistant, Growe participated in video scouting, assisted the coaching staff on the floor during skill instruction and practice, participated in tracking the academic progress of the men's basketball student athletes, helped organize on campus recruiting efforts and executed the film exchange program. While working with the men's basketball team, Growe also completed his master's degree from Xavier University in sport administration in 2011.

Growe came to Xavier after graduating from Indiana University in 2009 with a degree in sport marketing and management. During his time at Indiana, Growe spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons as a student manager. His duties included assisting the coaching staff on the floor during practices, assisting the coaching staff with video scouting, managing the operations of summer camp and participating in day-to-day operations with the team. During his time in Bloomington, Ind., the Hoosiers went 46-19 and notched back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

A St. Louis, Mo., native, Growe also spent the summers of 2008 and 2009 working with the Indiana Elite AAU program. During his time with Indiana Elite, Growe participated in on the floor coaching of players during games and practices, recruited players to the program and handled administrative tasks for the team. He coached multiple Division I players during his time with the program.

Growe and his wife, Samantha, have a son, Jonah.
